The Lost Crown of Percy
The royal crown has vanished! Percy follows the clues round the castle.
One morning, Percy woke up and the royal crown was gone! It was not on its cushion. It was not under the bed. ‘Somebody has taken it,’ said Percy. ‘Come on, Ravi. Let’s find it.’
First, they found a trail of tiny, sparkly footprints on the floor. ‘Look!’ said Ravi. They followed the footprints up the stairs and down the corridor, round and round the castle.
Then Percy found a golden thread caught on a door. And then a shiny feather. And then a smudge of jam. Each clue was a little piece of the puzzle. Percy thought hard.
Finally the clues led to the bottom of the fish pond. And there was the crown! It had been taken by a duckling who thought it was a hoop. It was only borrowed, not stolen.
Percy wasn’t cross. He gently took the crown back and gave Rory a shiny button to keep instead. Rory smiled and skipped away. Ravi said, ‘You’re a great detective, Percy.’
That evening, Percy put the crown safely on its cushion. He smiled. A good king or queen is not the one with the crown, but the one who stays calm and solves the problem.
