Tara’s First Kick

Tara the tiger has never kicked a ball before. Today is the big day!

Tara the tiger loved watching the big kids play football at Daisy Hill. The ball went zoom, zoom, zoom! She wished she could play too.

‘Do you want to play?’ asked Enzo the elephant. Tara nodded. Enzo rolled the ball across the grass, all the way to Tara’s feet.

Tara took a big swing and KICK! Oh no! The ball bounced the wrong way and rolled into the bushes. ‘Never mind,’ said Enzo. ‘Try again!’

Tara tried again. And again. She wobbled. She tumbled. She giggled. Kicking was much harder than it looked!

Then Tara took a deep breath. ‘Eyes on the ball,’ she whispered. She kicked. THUMP! The ball rolled straight to Enzo. ‘You did it!’ cheered Enzo.

They kicked the ball back and forth until the sun began to sink. Tara had a cold cup of water for being brave.

Tara skipped home with muddy knees and a great big smile. Tomorrow, she would kick even better. Hooray for Tara!
