The Day Dot Roared Too Loud

Dot is a little monster who finds school very, very hard, until she discovers her own talent.

Dot the dinosaur was starting Monster School. The classroom was full of little monsters. Uma the unicorn said, ‘Today, we will practise roaring.’ Everyone roared except Dot.

Dot tried to roar, but only a tiny squeak came out. The other monsters giggled. Dot’s cheeks went purple. She wished she could disappear. Rani said, ‘Don’t worry. It takes practice.’

Next was stomping, and Dot stomped too lightly. Then jumping, but Dot bumped her head. Dot felt like the worst monster ever. At lunchtime, she sat alone with a sandwich.

After lunch, Uma said, ‘Show us what you are best at.’ Dot gulped. Then she built a tall tower. The class gasped. It was wonderful! Nobody else could do that.

‘You have a gift for building,’ said Uma. Rani grinned. ‘Better than roaring!’ Dot beamed. ‘I’m a good monster after all.’ And from then on, Dot was a star of Monster School.
