The Egg-and-Spoon Race of Bella
Bella comes last in the race, but wins something more special than a medal.
It was Sports Day, and the field was full of flags and cheering parents. Bella lined up for the three-legged race. Her tummy fluttered. She wanted to win very much.
‘Ready, steady, GO!’ Bear zoomed ahead. Bella ran as fast as she could. But halfway, the sack slipped. Bella wobbled and fell behind. One by one, the others crossed the finish line.
Bella came last. Her eyes began to water. But then she heard something. Everyone was clapping and shouting, ‘Come on, Bella! You can do it!’ She wiped her eyes, and kept going.
When Bella crossed the line, the whole field roared. Bear ran over and hugged her. ‘You never gave up,’ said Bear. ‘That’s more brave than winning.’
Ben gave Bella a special sticker: ‘Best Try of the Day.’ Bella wore it all afternoon. It shone brighter than any medal.
The little lesson
Trying your best matters more than winning.
