The Monster Under Vik’s Bed

Vik finds a monster under the bed. It turns out to be even more scared than he is.

At bedtime, Vik heard a noise. Snuffle, snuffle, rustle. It was coming from under the bed. Vik pulled the covers to his chin. ‘Who’s there?’ he whispered.

A pair of big yellow eyes peeked out. Then a fluffy paw. It was Bruno the dragon. ‘Please don’t be cross,’ squeaked Bruno. ‘I’m scared of the dark.’ Vik blinked.

Vik was no longer afraid. ‘You can come out,’ he said kindly. Bruno crawled out, trembling. Vik gave him a night-light. He said, ‘Thank you. You’re nice.’

They sat together on the bed, sharing the blanket. They talked about everything. Bruno said, ‘I live under beds because they’re cosy.’ Vik laughed. ‘You can visit whenever you like.’

When Vik yawned, Bruno tiptoed back under the bed. ‘Goodnight,’ whispered Bruno. ‘Goodnight,’ said Vik. And both of them slept soundly.
