The Rainbow Maker: Gia
Gia wonders where rainbows come from, and discovers how to make one at home.
After the rain, a rainbow arced across the sky. βWhere do rainbows come from?β Gia asked Toby the turtle. Toby didnβt know. So Gia decided to find out.
Gia read that rainbows happen when sunlight shines through raindrops. The light bends and splits into seven colours. βI could do that,β Gia thought, βat home!β
Gia stood in the sunlight with a prism. She held it up, and tilted it. Suddenly, the wall lit up with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet! βA rainbow!β Gia cried.
Toby tried to catch the colours with his paws, but they slipped away. They laughed, and danced in the little rainbow until the sun slid behind a cloud.
That evening, Gia drew a picture of the rainbow in a notebook. βNow I know,β she wrote. βLight has all the colours inside it.β And Gia smiled, feeling like a real scientist.
