The Shy Little turtle
Hattie is so shy that she hides from everyone, until a friend needs help.
Hattie the turtle was very, very shy. When anyone said hello, Hattie hid behind a rock. ‘Maybe they won’t notice me,’ she whispered.
One windy day, Rory the pony came by. Rory was sniffling. ‘I’ve lost my little paper boat,’ said Rory. ‘It blew away, and I can’t find it anywhere.’
Hattie peeked out. She wanted to help, but her voice felt tiny. ‘I... I... ‘ she began. But the words were too small to hear.
Then Hattie saw something shiny high up on a branch. It was the little paper boat! Hattie was small and quick, so she climbed up, up, up, and gently plucked it down.
Hattie tiptoed over to Rory and held out the little paper boat. ‘Oh!’ said Rory. ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you!’ Rory gave Hattie the biggest hug.
‘Would you like to be friends?’ asked Rory. Hattie took a tiny breath. ‘Yes,’ she said. It was the loudest yes she had ever said.
