Tomas Chases the Hat
A gust of wind blows Tomas’s hat away, and it lands in some very silly places.
Tomas the lion had a new green party hat. It was the best hat in the whole world. Tomas wore it to the park and spun round and round. ‘Look at me!’ he cried.
But then, WHOOSH! A strong gust of wind blew by and plucked the hat right off Tomas’s head! It flew up, up, up into the sky. ‘My hat!’ shouted Tomas. ‘Come back!’
Tomas ran after it. The hat sailed over the fence and landed on a startled sheep. ‘Oh dear,’ said Wally, who had come running. ‘How will we get it back?’ But then WHOOSH! The hat blew away again.
It bounced on a haystack. It spun round the weather vane. It dropped into a bucket and flipped out again. Tomas, Wally and Kira the kitten chased it everywhere.
At last, the wind got tired. The hat drifted down, down, down, and landed with a soft plop on Tomas’s head, right where it belonged. Everybody stared. Then everybody cheered!
‘I think the wind just wanted to dance,’ laughed Wally. Tomas took a ribbon and tied it under his chin. Now the hat would stay on. And if the wind wanted to dance again, Tomas would dance with it.
The little lesson
If you lose something, keep a sense of humour and keep looking.
Let’s talk about it
- Where did the hat land first?
- What would you do if your hat blew away?
