Where Is Manu? Ask Aisha

Aisha is in charge of the class pet for the weekend, but it goes missing.

On Friday, Ben the bear said, ‘This weekend, Aisha will take Manu the duck home.’ Aisha was thrilled. She carried the cage home like treasure.

On Saturday morning, Aisha went to feed Manu. The cage door was open! The cage was empty! Aisha’s heart fell. She had forgotten to latch it properly. Manu was missing!

Aisha searched everywhere. She looked under the bed. She looked in the bath. Nothing. She wanted to hide the mistake. But Aisha knew that wouldn’t help Manu. She called Alfie.

‘I lost Manu,’ Aisha said. Alfie said, ‘Don’t panic. Let’s look together.’ They tiptoed through the house, whispering. And at last, they heard a tiny rustle under the sofa.

There was Manu, safe and sound, looking sleepy. Aisha scooped Manu up gently, and checked the latch three times. On Monday, Aisha told Ben what had happened. ‘Thank you for being honest,’ said Ben.

‘We all make mistakes,’ said Ben. ‘Aisha fixed it, and that’s what counts.’ And from then on, Aisha was the most careful pet-minder in the class.
