Whoosh! Ella Makes a Volcano
Ella builds a volcano for the science fair, and the experiment goes bubbly wrong!
The school science fair was tomorrow, and Ella had a plan: a volcano that really erupted. With Vik the raccoon, Ella made a mountain from clay and painted it brown.
Inside the crater went baking soda, a squirt of soap and some pink paint. Then Ella poured in a little vinegar. FIZZ! Bubbles climbed out of the volcano, lava-red and frothy.
βMore!β cried Vik. Ella poured more vinegar. And more. FIZZ-FIZZ-WHOOSH! A huge wave of pink foam spilled over the table and onto the floor. It reached Vikβs shoes!
They looked at each other, and burst out laughing. βToo much vinegar!β said Ella. They mopped up, and Ella wrote in a notebook: βUse only a little. Measure carefully.β
At the fair, Ella did the experiment again, perfectly. The foam rose slowly and spilled gently. Freddie the owl clapped. βExcellent,β said Freddie. βAnd I love your notes on what went wrong.β
