Willow’s Parcel with No Name
A parcel arrives with no name and no address, and a faint noise inside.
On Tuesday afternoon, there was a knock at the door. No one was there. But on the doorstep sat a brown paper parcel tied up with string. It had no name and no address.
Willow picked it up. It was surprisingly light. And as she shook it very gently, something went tinkle, tinkle. ‘Hmm,’ said Willow. ‘We’ll need the detective kit.’
Willow called Tessa the tiger and Vik the penguin. Together they examined the parcel. ‘There’s a feather stuck in the paper,’ said Tessa. ‘That’s a clue,’ said Willow. ‘Perhaps it came from the old orchard.’
They set off to the old orchard. Willow asked the people there: ‘Did anyone send a parcel?’ Everyone shook their heads. But the kind old lady at the counter thought for a moment. ‘I think I know that handwriting.’
She pointed to a tiny letter in the corner of the paper, almost invisible. ‘See? That’s a special curly G. It’s from someone very close to you.’ Willow’s heart skipped a beat.
They hurried home. Willow sat down and slowly pulled the string. The paper unwrapped. Inside lay a big box of chocolate stars and a card from far-off Auntie. Willow read the note. A big smile spread across her face.
It was a present from someone far away who loved her, and had wanted it to be a surprise. Willow wrote a thank-you letter that very night. And she mailed a parcel back, wrapped in brown paper, with no name at all.
