Zara and the Missing Egg
Zara the hen cannot find her egg. The whole farm helps look.
Cluck, cluck, cluck! Zara the puppy was in a flap. Her egg was gone! She had left it in the nest for just one minute, and now there was nothing but a few feathers.
Benji the cow came to help. ‘Let’s look,’ said Benji. They searched the barn, the garden and the haystack. They looked under every bucket. But the egg was nowhere.
Kiki the kitten joined in. ‘I’ll look under the wheelbarrow,’ said Kiki. And that’s where they heard it, a tiny tap-tap-tap. Something was moving inside a warm little nest.
Crack! The egg wobbled and opened. Out popped a fluffy yellow chick. ‘Peep!’ said the chick. Zara had rolled the egg to a warm spot and forgotten! She gasped, and then she laughed.
The whole farm gathered to see. ‘Welcome, little one,’ said Zara, nuzzling her new baby. ‘And thank you, my friends, for helping.’ That night, the chick fell asleep under her mother’s wing.
