Bruno Comes Last (and Wins)
Bruno comes last in the race, but wins something more special than a medal.
It was Sports Day, and the field was full of flags and cheering parents. Bruno lined up for the three-legged race. His tummy fluttered. He wanted to win very much.
βReady, steady, GO!β Rory zoomed ahead. Bruno ran as fast as he could. But halfway, the sack slipped. Bruno wobbled and fell behind. One by one, the others crossed the finish line.
Bruno came last. His eyes began to water. But then he heard something. Everyone was clapping and shouting, βCome on, Bruno! You can do it!β He wiped his eyes, and kept going.
When Bruno crossed the line, the whole field roared. Rory ran over and hugged him. βYou never gave up,β said Rory. βThatβs more brave than winning.β
Tilly gave Bruno a special sticker: βBest Try of the Day.β Bruno wore it all afternoon. It shone brighter than any medal.
