Dexter Goes to Monster School
Dexter is a little monster who finds school very, very hard, until he discovers his own talent.
Dexter the dragon was starting Monster School. The classroom was full of little monsters. Freddie the unicorn said, ‘Today, we will practise roaring.’ Everyone roared except Dexter.
Dexter tried to roar, but only a tiny squeak came out. The other monsters giggled. Dexter’s cheeks went purple. He wished he could disappear. Dev said, ‘Don’t worry. It takes practice.’
Next was stomping, and Dexter stomped too lightly. Then jumping, but Dexter bumped his head. Dexter felt like the worst monster ever. At lunchtime, he sat alone with a sandwich.
After lunch, Freddie said, ‘Show us what you are best at.’ Dexter gulped. Then he built a tall tower. The class gasped. It was wonderful! Nobody else could do that.
‘You have a gift for building,’ said Freddie. Dev grinned. ‘Better than roaring!’ Dexter beamed. ‘I’m a good monster after all.’ And from then on, Dexter was a star of Monster School.
