Dani’s Soup Mix-Up
Dani is making soup, but the sugar and salt got swapped, and so did a few other things!
Dani the raccoon was cooking soup for dinner. She chopped carrots. She stirred and stirred. The kitchen smelled almost ready. ‘Now for the seasoning,’ said Dani, humming.
But Dani wasn’t looking carefully. She grabbed the wrong jar. In went three cups of honey! Dani gave the soup a big stir. It looked okay. It smelled okay. She didn’t know about the mistake yet.
Soon, Yara the turtle and Hattie the hedgehog arrived, rubbing their tummies. ‘Soup’s ready!’ said Dani proudly. Everybody sat down. Everybody picked up a spoon.
Yara took a big slurp. Yara’s eyes went round. Hattie took a mouthful. Hattie’s whiskers curled. It was sticky and sweet! ‘Hmm,’ said Yara. ‘It’s... Interesting.’
Dani took a taste. ‘Oh no!’ she gasped. ‘I used the wrong jar!’ Her ears went pink. She wanted to hide under the table. But Hattie burst into giggles, and then Yara did too.
‘Let’s fix it!’ said Yara. They added a bit of this and a bit of that. Some extra carrots, a squeeze of lemon, a pinch of the right seasoning. They tasted again. ‘Perfect!’
They ate every drop. ‘It’s the best soup ever,’ said Yara. ‘Even better than the first one,’ said Hattie. Dani laughed. ‘Okay,’ she said, ‘but next time, I’m reading the labels.’
