It was bedtime in the forest, but Dev the duck wasn’t sleepy. He skipped. He hopped. He bounced on the bed. ‘I’m not tired!’ he cried.
Rani the rabbit wasn’t tired either. Rani was dancing in the moonlight. And Yara the deer couldn’t sleep with so much noise. ‘Oh dear,’ sighed Yara.
Up in the sky, the moon heard them. She was big and round and kind, and she knew just what to do. Very softly, she began to hum.
‘dream, little cloud, dream,’ hummed the moon. Her song floated down on silver beams. It tickled the treetops and whispered through the leaves. Everyone stopped to listen.
Rani stopped dancing. Rani sat down and yawned. Yara wrapped her blanket round herself. And Dev rubbed his eyes. ‘Maybe a tiny bit tired,’ he said.
The moon sang on and on, softer and softer. One by one, the animals curled up. One snore, two snores, three. And the moon smiled and sang a little longer, just to be sure.
