Faye Bakes a Birthday Cake
Faye bakes a cake for Danny’s birthday. It doesn’t turn out as planned, but it tastes wonderful.
It was Danny’s birthday tomorrow, and Faye wanted to make a special surprise. She decided to bake a vanilla cake. Layla the turtle gave her a recipe.
Faye mixed butter, sugar, eggs and flour. She spooned the batter into a tin and popped it in the oven. Then she waited. And waited. It smelled so good!
But when Faye took out the cake, it had sank in the middle. Faye’s heart sank too. ‘Oh no,’ she said. ‘It’s a mess.’ Layla smiled. ‘Let’s decorate it.’
They covered it with thick icing, sprinkles and candles. It still leaned a bit, but it looked cheerful. Faye carried it carefully to Danny’s party.
‘SURPRISE!’ Danny gasped. ‘A cake! For me?’ Faye blushed. ‘It’s not perfect,’ she said. Danny said, ‘It’s the best cake in the world, because you made it.’ Everyone sang, and ate every last crumb.
