Finn and the Hiccups
Finn has a terrible case of the hiccups. Every hic makes something go wrong!
Finn the zebra woke up with the hiccups. ‘HIC!’ went Finn. The windows rattled. ‘HIC!’ The floor shook. ‘HIC!’ A bird fell off a tree, and was quite cross about it.
All morning, the hiccups kept coming. ‘HIC!’ One of them made the pond splash over the grass. Another made Enzo the bee bounce up in the air. ‘This is no good,’ said Finn. ‘I need to stop!’
Enzo had an idea. ‘Try counting backwards from ten!’ So Finn tried. He did it very carefully. But it didn’t work. ‘HIC!’ The hiccup seemed to be laughing at him.
Yuki the kitten had another idea. ‘I’ll give you a big scare!’ Yuki hid behind a bush and jumped out. ‘BOO!’ But Finn wasn’t scared. ‘HIC!’ was all he said.
The friends sat down, tired. Enzo was so tired that he began to hum. Yuki joined in, then they started to dance a silly dance, tripping over each other. Finn watched and began to giggle.
Finn laughed and laughed, and laughed even more. ‘Ha, ha, HIC! Ha, ha, ha...’ And then, ‘Ha, ha... Hmm.’ Finn waited. There was no hic. It was gone! ‘Hooray!’ everyone cried.
‘So that’s the cure,’ said Yuki. ‘Laughter!’ And for the rest of the day, whenever anyone had a tiny hiccup, the whole village just laughed it away.
