Goodnight, Zane!
Beth finds a monster under the bed. It turns out to be even more scared than she is.
At bedtime, Beth heard a noise. Snuffle, snuffle, rustle. It was coming from under the bed. Beth pulled the covers to her chin. ‘Who’s there?’ she whispered.
A pair of big yellow eyes peeked out. Then a fluffy paw. It was Zane the unicorn. ‘Please don’t be cross,’ squeaked Zane. ‘I’m scared of the dark.’ Beth blinked.
Beth was no longer afraid. ‘You can come out,’ she said kindly. Zane crawled out, trembling. Beth gave him a cuddly toy. He said, ‘Thank you. You’re nice.’
They sat together on the bed, sharing the blanket. They talked about everything. Zane said, ‘I live under beds because they’re cosy.’ Beth laughed. ‘You can visit whenever you like.’
When Beth yawned, Zane tiptoed back under the bed. ‘Goodnight,’ whispered Zane. ‘Goodnight,’ said Beth. And both of them slept soundly.
