Percy Meets a Monster

Percy finds a monster under the bed. It turns out to be even more scared than he is.

At bedtime, Percy heard a noise. Snuffle, snuffle, rustle. It was coming from under the bed. Percy pulled the covers to his chin. ‘Who’s there?’ he whispered.

A pair of big yellow eyes peeked out. Then a fluffy paw. It was Nate the dinosaur. ‘Please don’t be cross,’ squeaked Nate. ‘I’m scared of the dark.’ Percy blinked.

Percy was no longer afraid. ‘You can come out,’ he said kindly. Nate crawled out, trembling. Percy gave him a warm milk. He said, ‘Thank you. You’re nice.’

They sat together on the bed, sharing the blanket. They talked about everything. Nate said, ‘I live under beds because they’re cosy.’ Percy laughed. ‘You can visit whenever you like.’

When Percy yawned, Nate tiptoed back under the bed. ‘Goodnight,’ whispered Nate. ‘Goodnight,’ said Percy. And both of them slept soundly.
