Pip Flies to the Moon

Pip counts down and blasts off for the very first time. Whoosh!

Pip the penguin was an astronaut. Today was his first flight into space! He put on his helmet and climbed into the shiny red rocket with Hugo the hippo.

β€˜Ready?’ asked Hugo. β€˜Ready!’ said Pip. They counted together. β€˜Five! Four! Three! Two! One!’ WHOOOOSH! The rocket blasted up into the sky.

Up, up, up they went, past the birds, past the clouds. The sky turned from blue to dark blue to black. Tiny stars twinkled all around. β€˜Wow,’ whispered Pip.

Pip looked out of the window and saw a big orange planet. β€˜Look!’ he said. β€˜It’s the biggest thing I ever saw!’ Hugo pressed his nose against the glass.

The rocket landed softly on the moon with a gentle bump. Pip stepped out. With each step, he floated up. Boing! Boing! Boing! He could jump higher than a house!

They planted a little flag, and waved to the blue Earth far away. β€˜Hello, home!’ they called. Then they looked at each other and laughed with joy.

Then it was time to go home. Pip fell asleep on the way, dreaming of planets and stars. And when he woke up, he was in bed, still holding a tiny moon rock.
