Priya’s Treasure Island
Priya digs up a chest. There’s no gold inside, just a note that says ‘look behind you’.
Priya the puppy was a little pirate, and had one wish: to find treasure. She had a spade and a map. She had a hat with a feather. All she needed was a chest of gold.
Priya walked across the island, counting steps. ‘One, two, three, four,’ she said. At last she came to a big white rock. ‘X marks the spot,’ she whispered. She began to dig.
Dig, dig, dig! Clunk! There it was, a little wooden chest. Priya’s heart was pounding. She took a deep breath and lifted the lid. Inside was no gold or jewels at all. There was only a note.
The note said, ‘The real treasure is behind you.’ Priya turned around. Standing there, with a big smile and a basket of warm cinnamon buns, was Zane the cow.
‘Hello,’ said Zane. ‘I buried the chest to find a friend. I’m new on the island and didn’t know anyone. I wanted someone who loved adventure.’ Priya grinned from ear to ear.
They sat on the sand, sharing warm cinnamon buns and telling stories. As the sun set, Priya said, ‘You know, you’re better than gold.’ ‘You too,’ said Zane. And they sailed home together.
