Ravi and the Magic Stone Soup
Ravi makes soup from a stone, and the whole village adds one thing at a time.
Ravi the panda arrived in a village on a cold evening, very hungry. The people shut their doors. ‘We have nothing to spare,’ they said. Ravi sat in the square, thinking.
Then Ravi lit a fire and filled a big pot with water. He dropped in a smooth round stone. ‘I’m making stone soup,’ he announced. ‘It’s magic. It only needs a little something extra.’
Leo the pony peeked out. ‘Stone soup?’ he said. ‘I have some cabbage.’ Into the pot they went. Then Caleb the deer brought herbs. Harvey the hippo brought a bag of rice.
The soup bubbled and smelled wonderful. Soon the whole village gathered round with bowls and spoons. Everyone shared, and there was plenty for all.
‘Best soup I ever had,’ said Harvey. Ravi smiled and fished out the stone. ‘The magic wasn’t in the stone,’ he said. ‘It was in sharing.’ And the village was never unfriendly again.
