Ruby Plants a Tiny Seed
Ruby plants a seed and waits. And waits. And waits some more.
In spring, Eli the elephant gave Ruby a tiny seed. βItβs a tulip,β said Eli. βPlant it in the soil, give it water and sun, and be patient.β Ruby dug a little hole.
Every morning, Ruby ran to look. Nothing. Not even a sprout. βIs it broken?β she asked Poppy. βPlants take time,β said Poppy. Ruby sighed, but watered the soil once more.
A week passed. Then two. Then, one morning, Ruby saw something green poking up. A tiny shoot, no bigger than a thumb. Ruby gasped. βItβs growing!β Poppy danced round and round.
Soon the shoot was a stem, with leaves and then a bud. Ruby watered it, sang to it and shielded it from the wind. And one sunny day, the bud opened, and there was a beautiful tulip.
βYou waited so patiently,β said Eli. Ruby smiled at the tulip. βIt was worth every day,β she said. And she saved a seed for next spring.
