Ruby’s Wobbly Cake for Flo
Ruby bakes a cake for Flo’s birthday. It doesn’t turn out as planned, but it tastes wonderful.
It was Flo’s birthday tomorrow, and Ruby wanted to make a special surprise. She decided to bake a lemon cake. Opal the owl gave her a recipe.
Ruby mixed butter, sugar, eggs and flour. She spooned the batter into a tin and popped it in the oven. Then she waited. And waited. It smelled so good!
But when Ruby took out the cake, it had came out lopsided. Ruby’s heart sank too. ‘Oh no,’ she said. ‘It’s a mess.’ Opal smiled. ‘Let’s decorate it.’
They covered it with thick icing, sprinkles and candles. It still leaned a bit, but it looked cheerful. Ruby carried it carefully to Flo’s party.
‘SURPRISE!’ Flo gasped. ‘A cake! For me?’ Ruby blushed. ‘It’s not perfect,’ she said. Flo said, ‘It’s the best cake in the world, because you made it.’ Everyone sang, and ate every last crumb.
