Uma and the Monster Spelling Bee
Uma is a little monster who finds school very, very hard, until she discovers her own talent.
Uma the unicorn was starting Monster School. The classroom was full of little monsters. Daisy the dinosaur said, βToday, we will practise roaring.β Everyone roared except Uma.
Uma tried to roar, but only a tiny squeak came out. The other monsters giggled. Umaβs cheeks went purple. She wished she could disappear. Harvey said, βDonβt worry. It takes practice.β
Next was stomping, and Uma stomped too lightly. Then jumping, but Uma bumped her head. Uma felt like the worst monster ever. At lunchtime, she sat alone with a sandwich.
After lunch, Daisy said, βShow us what you are best at.β Uma gulped. Then she sang a beautiful song. The class gasped. It was wonderful! Nobody else could do that.
βYou have a gift for singing,β said Daisy. Harvey grinned. βBetter than roaring!β Uma beamed. βIβm a good monster after all.β And from then on, Uma was a star of Monster School.
