Amara and the Monster Spelling Bee
Amara is a little monster who finds school very, very hard, until she discovers her own talent.
Amara the unicorn was starting Monster School. The classroom was full of little monsters. Kira the dinosaur said, ‘Today, we will practise roaring.’ Everyone roared except Amara.
Amara tried to roar, but only a tiny squeak came out. The other monsters giggled. Amara’s cheeks went purple. She wished she could disappear. Rory said, ‘Don’t worry. It takes practice.’
Next was stomping, and Amara stomped too lightly. Then jumping, but Amara bumped her head. Amara felt like the worst monster ever. At lunchtime, she sat alone with a sandwich.
After lunch, Kira said, ‘Show us what you are best at.’ Amara gulped. Then she twirled in a lovely dance. The class gasped. It was wonderful! Nobody else could do that.
‘You have a gift for dancing,’ said Kira. Rory grinned. ‘Better than roaring!’ Amara beamed. ‘I’m a good monster after all.’ And from then on, Amara was a star of Monster School.
