Where Do Rainbows Come From, Ella?
Ella wonders where rainbows come from, and discovers how to make one at home.
After the rain, a rainbow arced across the sky. βWhere do rainbows come from?β Ella asked Opal the owl. Opal didnβt know. So Ella decided to find out.
Ella read that rainbows happen when sunlight shines through raindrops. The light bends and splits into seven colours. βI could do that,β Ella thought, βat home!β
Ella stood in the sunlight with a glass of water. She held it up, and tilted it. Suddenly, the wall lit up with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet! βA rainbow!β Ella cried.
Opal tried to catch the colours with her paws, but they slipped away. They laughed, and danced in the little rainbow until the sun slid behind a cloud.
That evening, Ella drew a picture of the rainbow in a notebook. βNow I know,β she wrote. βLight has all the colours inside it.β And Ella smiled, feeling like a real scientist.
