Jonah Explores the Haunted House
Jonah and friends dare each other to look inside the spooky house. What they find is a surprise.
At the end of the street stood a tall, dark house with creaky shutters and a crooked door. Everyone said it was haunted. One windy evening, Stan dared Jonah to knock.
Jonah gulped, but nodded. They crept up the path, step by step. The gate squeaked. A shutter banged. Something moved behind the curtain. They held hands tightly.
Jonah knocked. The door creaked slowly open. A tall shadow appeared. ‘Hello?’ it said. They screamed! But it was only Sam the elephant, holding a plate of oil and toast.
‘Don’t be frightened,’ said Sam. ‘Come in, come in.’ Inside it was warm and bright. They met a kind inventor with a robot. ‘We thought you were a ghost!’ laughed Stan. ‘I get that a lot,’ said Sam.
They stayed for hours, eating oil and toast and hearing stories. When they left, Jonah said, ‘Thank you for having us.’ ‘Come back anytime,’ said Sam. And the house never seemed spooky again.
