Help, Cara’s Hair Won’t Behave!
Cara’s hair will not lie flat. Nothing works! What will happen at school photo day?
It was school photo day, and Cara woke up to find that her hair was sticking up like a bird’s nest. There were curls. There were spikes. There was even a tuft that pointed at the ceiling.
Cara tried to flatten it with three tight hats. But the hair just popped off like corks. ‘Oh no,’ she groaned. ‘I can’t go to school like this!’ She tried again. And again.
By the time Cara gave up, her hair was wilder than ever. She went to school with her hood pulled right down. But at the school gate, Basil the bear spotted her.
‘Why are you wearing your hood?’ asked Basil. Cara sighed and pulled it down. Everyone gasped. Then Basil grinned. ‘That’s AMAZING! It looks like a lion’s mane! Can I touch it?’
Soon, a crowd gathered. Rory the rabbit said, ‘It looks like a firework!’ Someone else said it looked like a sunflower. Cara began to smile. She felt a bit like a celebrity.
Photo time came. The photographer sat everyone in rows. ‘Smile!’ She flashed. And in the photo, Cara sat in the middle with a huge grin, her hair standing up like a crown.
Everyone loved the photo. Some of the other children tried to copy Cara’s hairstyle the next day. And Cara learned something: sometimes the thing you think is a problem is just a different kind of wonderful.
