Goodnight, Uma!
Bella finds a monster under the bed. It turns out to be even more scared than she is.
At bedtime, Bella heard a noise. Snuffle, snuffle, rustle. It was coming from under the bed. Bella pulled the covers to her chin. ‘Who’s there?’ she whispered.
A pair of big yellow eyes peeked out. Then a fluffy paw. It was Uma the unicorn. ‘Please don’t be cross,’ squeaked Uma. ‘I’m scared of the dark.’ Bella blinked.
Bella was no longer afraid. ‘You can come out,’ she said kindly. Uma crawled out, trembling. Bella gave her a biscuit. She said, ‘Thank you. You’re nice.’
They sat together on the bed, sharing the blanket. They talked about everything. Uma said, ‘I live under beds because they’re cosy.’ Bella laughed. ‘You can visit whenever you like.’
When Bella yawned, Uma tiptoed back under the bed. ‘Goodnight,’ whispered Uma. ‘Goodnight,’ said Bella. And both of them slept soundly.
