Hic! Said Percy
Percy has a terrible case of the hiccups. Every hic makes something go wrong!
Percy the cow woke up with the hiccups. ‘HIC!’ went Percy. The windows rattled. ‘HIC!’ The floor shook. ‘HIC!’ A bird fell off a tree, and was quite cross about it.
All morning, the hiccups kept coming. ‘HIC!’ One of them sent a pile of cushions flying. Another made Ravi the snail bounce up in the air. ‘This is no good,’ said Percy. ‘I need to stop!’
Ravi had an idea. ‘Try drinking water upside down!’ So Percy tried. He did it very carefully. But it didn’t work. ‘HIC!’ The hiccup seemed to be laughing at him.
Gia the giraffe had another idea. ‘I’ll give you a big scare!’ Gia hid behind a bush and jumped out. ‘BOO!’ But Percy wasn’t scared. ‘HIC!’ was all he said.
The friends sat down, tired. Ravi was so tired that he began to hum. Gia joined in, then they started to dance a silly dance, tripping over each other. Percy watched and began to giggle.
Percy laughed and laughed, and laughed even more. ‘Ha, ha, HIC! Ha, ha, ha...’ And then, ‘Ha, ha... Hmm.’ Percy waited. There was no hic. It was gone! ‘Hooray!’ everyone cried.
‘So that’s the cure,’ said Gia. ‘Laughter!’ And for the rest of the day, whenever anyone had a tiny hiccup, the whole village just laughed it away.
