Percy’s Surprise Cake
Percy bakes a cake for Pip’s birthday. It doesn’t turn out as planned, but it tastes wonderful.
It was Pip’s birthday tomorrow, and Percy wanted to make a special surprise. He decided to bake a vanilla cake. Zane the deer gave him a recipe.
Percy mixed butter, sugar, eggs and flour. He spooned the batter into a tin and popped it in the oven. Then he waited. And waited. It smelled so good!
But when Percy took out the cake, it had came out lopsided. Percy’s heart sank too. ‘Oh no,’ he said. ‘It’s a mess.’ Zane smiled. ‘Let’s decorate it.’
They covered it with thick icing, sprinkles and candles. It still leaned a bit, but it looked cheerful. Percy carried it carefully to Pip’s party.
‘SURPRISE!’ Pip gasped. ‘A cake! For me?’ Percy blushed. ‘It’s not perfect,’ he said. Pip said, ‘It’s the best cake in the world, because you made it.’ Everyone sang, and ate every last crumb.
