It was bedtime in the forest, but Rocco the rabbit wasn’t sleepy. He skipped. He hopped. He bounced on the bed. ‘I’m not tired!’ he cried.
Theo the turtle wasn’t tired either. Theo was dancing in the moonlight. And Flo the elephant couldn’t sleep with so much noise. ‘Oh dear,’ sighed Flo.
Up in the sky, the moon heard them. She was big and round and kind, and she knew just what to do. Very softly, she began to hum.
‘sleep, little star, sleep,’ hummed the moon. Her song floated down on silver beams. It tickled the treetops and whispered through the leaves. Everyone stopped to listen.
Theo stopped dancing. Theo sat down and yawned. Flo wrapped her blanket round herself. And Rocco rubbed his eyes. ‘Maybe a tiny bit tired,’ he said.
The moon sang on and on, softer and softer. One by one, the animals curled up. One snore, two snores, three. And the moon smiled and sang a little longer, just to be sure.
