The Lost Crown of Lola
The royal crown has vanished! Lola follows the clues round the castle.
One morning, Lola woke up and the royal crown was gone! It was not on its cushion. It was not under the bed. ‘Somebody has taken it,’ said Lola. ‘Come on, Sam. Let’s find it.’
First, they found a trail of tiny, sparkly footprints on the floor. ‘Look!’ said Sam. They followed the footprints up the stairs and down the corridor, round and round the castle.
Then Lola found a golden thread caught on a door. And then a shiny feather. And then a smudge of jam. Each clue was a little piece of the puzzle. Lola thought hard.
Finally the clues led to a nest high in the tower. And there was the crown! It had been taken by a magpie who loves shiny things. It was only borrowed, not stolen.
Lola wasn’t cross. She gently took the crown back and gave Hattie a shiny button to keep instead. Hattie smiled and skipped away. Sam said, ‘You’re a great detective, Lola.’
That evening, Lola put the crown safely on its cushion. She smiled. A good king or queen is not the one with the crown, but the one who stays calm and solves the problem.
