Isaac and the Monster Spelling Bee
Isaac is a little monster who finds school very, very hard, until he discovers his own talent.
Isaac the unicorn was starting Monster School. The classroom was full of little monsters. Jess the dinosaur said, ‘Today, we will practise roaring.’ Everyone roared except Isaac.
Isaac tried to roar, but only a tiny squeak came out. The other monsters giggled. Isaac’s cheeks went purple. He wished he could disappear. Enzo said, ‘Don’t worry. It takes practice.’
Next was stomping, and Isaac stomped too lightly. Then jumping, but Isaac bumped his head. Isaac felt like the worst monster ever. At lunchtime, he sat alone with a sandwich.
After lunch, Jess said, ‘Show us what you are best at.’ Isaac gulped. Then he built a tall tower. The class gasped. It was wonderful! Nobody else could do that.
‘You have a gift for building,’ said Jess. Enzo grinned. ‘Better than roaring!’ Isaac beamed. ‘I’m a good monster after all.’ And from then on, Isaac was a star of Monster School.
