Rocco and the Midnight Knock
Rocco hears a strange knock in the night. Who could it be?
It was night, and the stars were out. Rocco the rabbit was snuggled in bed, nearly asleep. Then, tap, tap, tap. Rocco sat up. βWhat was that?β
Rocco pulled the blanket up to his nose. Tap, tap, tap went the noise again. Rocco tiptoed to the door and peeked outside. Nobody there. Just the dark.
Rocco went to wake Gia the mouse. βI heard something,β whispered Rocco. βLetβs find out what it is,β said Gia. βTogether, we arenβt afraid.β
They crept along the path. Tap, tap, tap went the noise. It was coming from behind a big tree. Rocco held Giaβs hand tightly. βOne, two, three... Look!β
And there was Layla the little bird! βOh, hello,β said Layla. βIβm sorry to wake you. I felt too cold to sleep.β Rocco felt silly for being afraid. He smiled.
They took Layla home for warm milk and a cosy blanket. Soon all three friends were fast asleep. And the only noise in the night was gentle snoring.
