Sam’s Surprise Cake
Sam bakes a cake for Stan’s birthday. It doesn’t turn out as planned, but it tastes wonderful.
It was Stan’s birthday tomorrow, and Sam wanted to make a special surprise. He decided to bake a carrot cake. Ravi the bear gave him a recipe.
Sam mixed butter, sugar, eggs and flour. He spooned the batter into a tin and popped it in the oven. Then he waited. And waited. It smelled so good!
But when Sam took out the cake, it had leaned like a tower. Sam’s heart sank too. ‘Oh no,’ he said. ‘It’s a mess.’ Ravi smiled. ‘Let’s decorate it.’
They covered it with thick icing, sprinkles and candles. It still leaned a bit, but it looked cheerful. Sam carried it carefully to Stan’s party.
‘SURPRISE!’ Stan gasped. ‘A cake! For me?’ Sam blushed. ‘It’s not perfect,’ he said. Stan said, ‘It’s the best cake in the world, because you made it.’ Everyone sang, and ate every last crumb.
